Housing for All

Every resident of Allegheny County deserves high-quality housing that fits their family’s budget. However, rental costs have skyrocketed in our county since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, far outpacing any growth in wages; and rising interest rates have put owning a home out of reach for many young families. Stable, high-quality housing is the foundation for a healthy community. Sara’s Housing for All plan will make Allegheny County a leader in developing quality housing that fits the character of our communities, help seniors and low-income residents stay in their homes, make property taxes affordable and fair, and protect renters from soaring costs.

➜ Implement Sara’s $125M Whole Home Repairs legislation, providing grants to help seniors and working families stay in their homes and keep our communities strong

➜ Address the growing epidemic of homelessness by increasing emergency and transitional housing options and improving access to mental health and drug treatment services to give people a stable foundation for a better life

➜ Pass a countywide Tenants’ Bill of Rights to protect renters from rising costs and predatory practices

➜ Create an Allegheny County Land Bank, in partnership with successful existing efforts like the Tri-COG Land Bank, to reduce blight in our communities, provide affordable starter homes, and rebuild our tax base.
